Jenny MacFarlane – Photographer and Owner, Stylish & Hip Weddings
Jenny comes from a long line of accomplished photographers. Having spent much of her childhood in her Grandmother’s darkroom, she knew at an early age she would become a photographer, too. At just 14 (and convinced she was destined to marry one of the Beastie Boys), she was photographing the underground music and skateboarding scene on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
It was after earning a bachelors degree in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City that Jenny honed her craft working as a photographer for several local newspapers, including the New York Times. She went on to contribute to the likes of Newsweek, Glamour, and New York Magazine. Her expertise has led her clients to rave, “Jenny’s photos are truly authentic and artful, capturing light, emotion, and the feeling of the day.”
Jenny radiates love and warmth, yet she is no stranger to controlling a room. As a loud and proud New Yorker, she can corral huge numbers of people for group photos. Her clients rave about her personality as much as her photos. One happy client put it this way, “From describing our vision for the day, to choosing the right package, to finalizing the details, it was all stress-free and easy-going. Jenny made us feel comfortable and excited, and the outcome was absolutely beautiful.”
Perhaps most importantly, Jenny loves her job. A recent client says, “Jenny is genuinely as excited about your marriage as you are!” It is her passion for photography and her penchant for taking care of people that makes her so good at what she does.
Mariliana – Photographer
Mariliana was born and raised in Venezuela. Her father introduced her to photography at an early age, and she began taking photography workshops in her teens. Mariliana came to the states in her early 20’s to study photography; she’s even had a solo exhibition of her photography at the David Rockefeller Center at Harvard University.
When Mariliana isn’t behind the lens, you can find her dancing, teaching yoga, discovering new neighborhoods in New York, or obsessively reading about food. Mariliana doesn’t know how to give less than 100%. Her clients say, “We chose Mariliana because of her exceptional eye for capturing the simple beauty of the moment, her passion for the craft of photography, and the contagious joy she exudes. She captured what we wanted to remember about our wedding as well as things we wanted to see (were we not so busy getting married!).
Frank – Videographer
As the father of two young children, Frank began video editing after his son was born. “I dabbled with video for years; even though I was just making home movies, I wanted to make them interesting.” Having studied audio engineering at New School University, going from engineering music to engineering video was a natural progression for Frank.
In addition to being the greatest person you’ll ever meet, Frank’s got an uncanny ability to read people and adapt to different personalities, which makes him ideal to capture weddings on video. “You’re capturing a once in a lifetime moment that the couple can relive time and time again.” Working with the Stylish and Hip Team inspires Frank to be better. “It’s an environment that encourages me to be more creative,” he says.
Kate – Photographer
Kate fell in love at 13 years old. It was then she picked up her first camera and began a life-long love affair with photography. She has even photographed several celebrities including Sam Waterston and Stephen Sondheim.
A self-proclaimed people person, Kate loves photographing weddings. “I love the personal style each couple brings to their special day.” She particularly enjoys working with the Stylish and Hip Team and meeting all the guests who attend their weddings. “It’s fun to see the collection of great people who come and show their support for the couple.”
Kate also lends her talents to local charities and non-profit organizations. Her personal favorite? Photographing dogs in local shelters and helping them find homes. As a proud owner of a pit bull, she knows firsthand the joy an animal can bring.
